Angus LinkSM is the American Angus Association’s new feeder cattle program. The program’s three simple scores identify the genetic performance potential of enrolled calves and yearlings from ranch to rail. Cattle composed of multiple breeds are eligible to enroll and the scores work from coast to coast and north to south. The scores give producers the ability to effectively communicate the genetic merit of their calves to potential buyers and differentiate their calves from others on sale day. The program’s easy to understand scoring system enables cattle feeders and buyers to incorporate genetic performance potential into their appraisal process at the speed of commerce. By helping to identify cattle that have the potential to work in their system whether they are paid on gain, grade or a combination of the two the Angus Link scorecard can aid in managing risk by making profits more predictable.

CHB

Hereford sired calves must be at least 50% Hereford genetics and sired by a Hereford bull battery that ranks in the top 50% of the breed for the $CHB index.

IGENITY TERMINAL/IGENITY MATERNAL

Igenity® Branded, powered by NEOGEN, is a beef certification program verified by a genomic test. Developed in partnership with the team at SLA, Igenity Branded offers two pathways for producers to market and differentiate their genomically tested cattle, terminal and maternal. To qualify, cattle producers need to test at least 35% of their calf crop directly. From there, lots of cattle can be placed into one of three tiers to differentiate on sale day. These include elite, premier and choice.

- Elite – Best of the best. These calves rank genetically superior to 75% of Igenity tested cattle.
- Premier – The next level. Based on an Igenity profile, these calves rank in the top 50% for genomic merit geared towards end-product or maternal characteristics.
- Choice – Entry level tier. Calves have received a verified Igenity genomic profile.

The genetic ranking is calculated through by Igenity Beef - the industry’s first tool to measure genetic merit in commercial crossbred cattle. Now backed by the world’s largest multibreed genetic evaluation through IGS, cattlemen and women can be sure they are receiving the most accurate estimates possible.

IGS

The IGS Feeder Profit CalculatorTM leverages the largest beef genetic evaluation platform in the industry, can evaluate nearly any mainstream breed or breed cross, identifies the dollar differential of preconditioning and BRD vaccination, and puts all this in real dollars and cents.

INTEGRITY BEEF GENETIC MERIT

Participation in the Integrity Beef Alliance is approved by the member-run board of directors. Following the board’s acceptance into the program, participants are oriented to Integrity Beef’s herd health and bull requirement protocols and asked to agree, in writing, to the required elements and criteria. Cow herd and bulls must meet Integrity Beef Alliance standards.

- Bull Protocols: Registered Angus, Beefmaster, Brangus, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Hereford and Red Angus bulls having EPDs in top 20 percent of their respective breed for weaning weight and yearling weight
- Cow protocols: Cows must be no more than one-half Brahman influence (when using a non-Brahman influenced bull). No Longhorn, Corriente or dairy breed influence is allowed. Subsequent calf from Brahman influenced mating cannot be more than ¼ Brahman influence.

All cows and bulls must have a negative PI-BVDV status.
Ranch owner and/or ranch manager must have Beef Quality Assurance certification.
Producer must individually identify calves with Alliance-approved ear tags.
Producer must record at least first and last calf birth dates in each calving season.
The breeding season for qualified calves from the mature cow herd must be 90 days or less.
Producer must have a defined herd health program that is compliant with the Integrity Beef Alliance health program.
All calves must be preconditioned according to Alliance protocol.
